Purpose: To develop passing, support and possession play,
awareness of team-mates and running off the ball.
Procedure: In an area approximately 60X40 yards
wide, two teams play 6 v 6 soccer (or more) with no goalkeepers
and small goals. A line is marked 15-20 yards from each goal: to
score a goal the player must be inside this 'scoring zone'. This
will encourage a passing build-up. A spare player who acts as a
'floater' must be a support player for whichever team has
possession of the ball and does not need to defend. He should
wear a different coloured shirt or bib from the rest to help
identification. The teams play possession soccer and try to
score in the small goal; if any player calls for the ball then a
free-kick will be given against his team. This will encourage
the player 'on-the-ball' to look around quickly before passing.

Development: (a) The team which scores the most goals wins,
or: (b) Impose conditions, such as 'follow your pass', 'control and
pass' or look for wall-passing opportunities. |
