Checking Runs - Combination Pressure Training

OBJECTIVE: This activity requires a player to make many checking runs to break away from pressure and receive passes from team-mates.
DESCRIPTION: Using cones, set up a 20x20 yard grid. Place four offensive players at each corner, and give a ball to one of these players. Have two more players start in the grid, designating one to be on offense and one on defense. Play begins when the central attacker makes a checking run away from the defender and toward the player with the ball. The player with the ball should pass directly to the feet of the posting player, who attempts to score a point by passing the ball on the first touch to any of the other players outside the square. The defender works to intercept the ball, but returns the ball to an outside player whenever he gains possession of it. Continue play for two minutes, then rotate positions. The player who scores the most points wins.
VARIANT: Require the ball to always be in motion, and allow the players outside the square to pass to each other provided the ball is played to the central attacker at least once every four passes.
